Hellblau (2008 – ongoing) is a project that consists in tracing the manifestations of a particular shade of blue (hellblau in German). According to Kari Altmann, this colour is often used as “an interface for control, distance, power, fetishization, lust, and omnipresent friendliness that acts as a sweet, high-pitched mask for deeper intentions”. It is these uses that the artist traces, moving freely between logos, graphics and photos, between the corporate world and the game scene, mass entertainment (hellblau was the blue used in Avatar), daily life (hospital scrubs), consumer technology (a recurrent obsession), amateur porn, art and
much more. The work exists in two forms: a Tumblr account (http://hhellblauu.tumblr.com), where the artist collects the results of her research, and an installation consisting in an electric blue swimming pool where little polyurethane “icebergs” bearing images collected by Altmann float. Some of the fragments of ice collect outside the pool, in different positions. The very water they float in guarantees constant movement in any case.

Jon Rafmans «The 9 Eyes of Google Street View» ist die Sammlung eines Flaneurs, der auf seiner Online-Reise durch Google Street View dieser visuellen Speicherung der ganzen Welt auf Strassenebene bestimmte Bilder entnimmt. Wie es sich für einen Sammler gehört, sind es die kuriosen Dinge, die das Interesse wecken: ein Baby, das allein die Strasse entlangkrabbelt, ein Toter auf dem Asphalt. Während Google urteilsfrei aufnimmt und - Baby hin, Toter her - die Aufnahmen ausnahmslos präsentiert, so lange die räumlichen Koordinaten stimmen, sind für Rafman jene befremdlichen Aufnahmen die relevanten. Er stellt damit nicht nur aus dem Google-Archiv ein eigenes Archiv zusammen, er wendet durch sein Auswahlkriterium zugleich die maschinelle Archivierungspolitik von Google Street View zurück ins Menschliche. Dieses Bedürfnis, dem Automatischen eine persönliche Note zu geben, hatte kurz nach Rafmans individuellem Google-Street-View-Archiv übrigens auch die kollektive Pinnwand «Pinte-rest.com» entstehenlassen, auf der man seit März 2010 Bilder und Videos aus dem Web nach thematischen Kriterien versammeln und kommentieren kann.

All these requests for help, found in the long tail of YouTube and directly adressed to YouTube, make internet looks as a mute oracle and question the idea of the diffusion of social networks as a sufficent condition to the overflow of internet's creativity.
